Kindness Rock Garden

Our Sylvia Lake Community Rocks!

Have you noticed the pile of rocks as you enter the park? More than just a little landscaping, we see these stones as some simple building blocks for a caring community. The purpose is simple: to cultivate connections within our community and lift others up through simple acts of kindness. The SLCC Kindness Rock Garden is a place where we can share good thoughts for others in a fun and creative way!

TIPS FOR PAINTING KINDNESS stones

A kindness stone is simply a rock that someone has decorated with an inspirational message. They can be any size or shape, as big or small as you like! No special skills required, just the desire to spread joy and kindness in your community!

Select a stone to paint--any smooth rock will do--and wash it well with soap and warm water. Let it dry completely.
Use waterproof paint to create an area to add your message - this will prepare the surface and help protect your paint pens--and let dry completely. (We suggest using Outdoor Acrylic Craft Paint or even leftover Exterior Latex Paint)
Add your positive message with Acrylic Paint Markers, and let dry completely.
Seal your stone with a clear acrylic sealer to protect all your hard work and ensure it lasts, and let it dry completely before adding to the garden. (We suggest using a brush-on like Mod Podge or a spray sealer--just make sure it's waterproof).

These rocks are meant to be shared. If you see one that speaks to you, feel free to take it with you. All we ask is that you take a moment to think about the person who created it. Return it later if you like, or keep it on hand to bring you inspiration when you need it.

These rocks are meant to be shared. Find a message that brings positivity to a neighbor, and share it with them. Wouldn't it be wonderful if every one of our neighbors could say they had received a beautiful hand-created message of kindness?

LEAVE ONE TO HELP OUR GARDEN GROW

These rocks are meant to be shared. Grab a blank stone (we've placed some in the garden you can use, but any smooth rock will do), and get creative! Add your message of positivity for others and add it to the garden. Check out the tips for rock painting on this page so your message will last.
